After MANY ER visits and several phone calls, I was FINALLY able to take Paizlei up to Primary Children's on Monday. It was one of the best doctor's visits we have had with Paizlei in a while. After visiting with Dr. Wu for about an hour and a half, he determined Paizlei has a defect with her colon and rectum, most likely from being 2 months premature. At first, he referred to the problem as a disease, of which I cannot remember the name of the disease, but then he referred to it as more of a defect. He said there is a small portion of the colon that didn't form on its path to the rectum. He said something about the muscles in that portion didn't form and that is why she is unable to push the pooh out. Treatment for right now, until he gets all the tests and labs back, a very strict diet of mainly fiber.
After visiting for an hour and a half, he also ordered a barium enema (BE) and a bunch of blood work. Not only was the exam by Dr. Wu traumatic for Paizlei, the BE was AWFUL!!!! Between the doctor and I, we were able to hold her down enough for him to examine her. By the time we got in to radiology for the BE and CT scan, we had to have 6 people, including myself hold her down. Once they got the catheter in, they had to tape her little bottom closed and wrap her tiny legs together so she couldn't push the cath out. They underestimated the strength of my tiny 16 month old. Yep, she was SOOO mad, she was able to push it out. So of course, they had to do another cath, this time though, they did not tape her bottom and wrap her legs and they were able to fill her up with the barium and do the CT scan. That whole procedure took another hour and a half. By the time we got to the labs, she had been screaming for 2.5 hours. There was some confusion on the labs, so we had to wait for 45 minutes there to clear up the issue. I can't remember all the tests they did, but I do remember the two that were causing confusion; an ionized blood calcium and an ionized blood calcium with pH.
By the time we were done with everything, she had been screaming for 3 hours. I put her in her car seat and hadn't even pulled out of the parking lot and she was out like a light.
I am so very impressed with the doctors and staff at Primary's. I absolutely love Dr. Wu and the fact that he took the time to review Paizlei's history, look at all her x-rays and lab work she has had done for this problem from our doctor and the GVH ER doctors that have seen her, it was a HUGE answer to my prayers. Dr. Wu actually taking the time to listen to me was BIG. On Monday, all the way home, I kept beating myself for not taking her up there sooner.
I have to call Dr. Wu back in 2 weeks to let him know how Paizlei is doing. In 4 weeks, I have to call him to get the results from her tests and to find out what exactly they can do to "fix" the problem. And, we have to take her back in 8 weeks.
I want to thank everyone for your care, concern, well wishes and prayers. I know all the prayers truly helped us get the answers we so desperately needed. Thank you to our families for you love and support through all of this. We love you and appreciate everything you have done.

I hope they are able to give you some good answers that will really help the little gal out! I wish that event hadn't been so traumatic... for both of you! I would have been crying myself by the end, I'm sure!
