A Treat For Teachers

Today is Hunter's last day of school.  Although, I am delighted to have him home for the summer, I am a little sad because he LOVES going to school.  He was only absent from school 3 days this year!!!  We were shooting for perfect attendance, however, when the cold weather hits, or seasons change, poor little guy has issues with his asthma, so there were a few days he had to miss...unfortunate!  With today being his last day, his teacher sent him home with the cutest little "yearbook" of sorts.  It was about 15 pages long, with individual photos of Hunter, whole class photos, and cute little stories he told his teachers.  Looking through it, definitely brought a tear to my eye, as my little boy is growing, learning, talking better, becoming smarter and smarter.

Hunter is so lucky to be in such a great classroom with a wonderful, amazing, and patient teacher, as well as 4 amazing para-educators.  As a way to thank them for all their hard work, persistence, patience and love they have given to my sweet little boy, I made these super adorable, AND super easy treats for them.  (I will put the "recipe" or things you need to make them, below the photos.)  I waited for Hunter to get home from school, mainly because I wanted him to ride the bus home, because he LOVES to ride the bus, and LOVES his bus driver (she was definitely meant to be a bus driver...so cute and patient with the kids, and knows each child on her bus by name!).  Once he was home, I loaded the cute little "flower arrangements" in a box and Hunter and I took them to the school to give to all the teachers.  We thought we would be there in time for him to give them to each of the teachers, however, his main teacher, Mrs. Mellor was the only one there.  She was so cute when Hunter proudly handed her the treat.  He handed it to her, gave her a hug and said, "thank you, Missdess Melloh!"  (aka, Mrs. Mellor...he can't say his Rs and ends up added letters or sounds in the Rs place).

Thank you Mrs. Mellor, Mrs. Dyreng (Hunter's FAVORITE...he even made her some pictures to take to her today), Mrs. Williams, Mrs. K., and Mr. Williams.  Your hard work and persistence with my sweet Hunter has definitely paid off this year.  I also have to thank his wonderful speech teachers.  Hunter has made such leaps and bounds this year in speech, and gets to spend 6 days with them this summer, as he qualified for ESY.  Thank you, Anona, Mary, and the other speech lady (I apologize I don't know her name...my bad!)!  Your hard work and persistence has definitely paid off this year as well!

Here are are the adorable little "flower arrangements" of sorts I made for them.  I saw them on this great website, and thought they would be a super cute, end-of-school-year-treat for his teachers.
Isn't he so stinkin' adorable?  LOVE HIM!!!  I had to get a photo of him holding the little treat.  When I told him they were for his teachers, he was so excited...kind of shows in the cute grin on his face.  He REALLY wanted to eat the marshmallows.  I had a few left over, so to satisfy his want, I made one for him.

4 of the 5 "flower arrangements".  I LOVE how they turned out.  Especially since I decided to make them at the spur of the moment, and didn't really look at the directions online, I just went with it.

An up-close of one that wasn't completely finished yet.  Before we took them to the school to give to his teachers, we had to stop at the corner gas station to get a couple more bags of M&M's.

Just an up-close of the super cute marshmallow flowers.

***RECIPE***
1 bag Jumbo Marshmallows
1 large container of multi-colored decorating sprinkles
1 package sucker sticks or skewers
dry foam
1 package small, wide-mouth cups
M&M's to fill the bottom of the cups
craft items...whatever you choose to decorate the cups with
glue gun and glue sticks
water

Cut a small chunk of dry foam, rubbed all the lose foam particles off, then hot glued it to the bottom of each cup.
For the marshmallows, I couldn't find sucker sticks, so I cut some skewers in half, some longer, some shorter.  Dip the clean, un-cut tip in the water then stuck the marshmallow to it, almost all the to the top of the marshmallow.  Dip the marshmallow about half-way in water, tap it a little to get the excess water off, then dip it in the sprinkles, turning it in circles to cover every part of the marshmallow that was wet.  Once the sprinkles are on, hot glue the bottom of the skewer up about a half inch, then place it in the dry foam where you want it.  Repeat that process until you have your desired amount of marshmallow flowers in the cups.  Fill cups with desired amount of M&M's.  Decorate the outside of the cups as you would like.  (I would probably do this step the same time I glue the dry foam in the bottom of the cup.)

Wait....and the sprinkles didn't all fall off-just by being "glued" by water alone? Did you hot glue the ribbon to the outside of the cup, too?

You're welcome, Ehu!!! Nope, the sprinkles didn't fall off. I thought about using frosting, but tried with water first and it made the stickiness of the marshmallow come out and worked perfectly. And yes, the ribbon on the outside of the cup is hot glued on. Good luck, and I want to see pictures when you are done!
