Her New Dress

For Christmas this last year, Zane's Mom gave me a new sewing machine.  To say I was excited, is an understatement.  I have definitely LOVED having my very own sewing machine, and I have definitely put it to good use.

The Saturday before Mother's Day, I finished this adorable dress I started for Paizlei the first part of May.  I got the fabric and the pattern at the first of the year, no rush in getting it done, right?  It was the first time I have followed an actual pattern, and had to cut pieces out by pinning the pattern to the fabric.  I was a little intimidated by following the pattern, and had to call my Mom and Val (Zane's Mom) a dozen and a half times, because I didn't know what a certain term meant, or how to do a certain thing.  I'm sure they both got completely sick of me calling.  Val came over to my  house to help me figure out how to sew the yoke on...CONFUSING...but, now I will know for next time.  I have to admit, I don't know how to do button holes yet on my sewing machine, so I took the dress, buttons and thread to Val's and had her show me how to do it.  (I need to get a piece of scrap fabric and figure it out...sometime!)  I finished it just in time for my baby girl to wear it to church on Mother's Day.  She looked so stinkin' cute in it...however, I didn't get a picture of her in it.  I will get one next time she wears it.

Here are some photos of my hard work.

Isn't it so cute?  LOVE IT!!!  And I really love the print on the fabric.

This is the super hard yoke that I had issues on, and the most adorable button.  I found the buttons after I picked out the fabric.  I can't remember where I found the buttons, but they weren't from the same place I got the fabric.  I was afraid they wouldn't match.  I was pleasantly surprised when they matched perfectly!

The bottom of the dress has 3 rows of ribbon.  I had the hardest time sewing this ribbon on.  When I was all done, I made the comment to both my Mom and Val, that I will NEVER sew with ribbon again!  It wasn't that it slid on the fabric, it was that my needle didn't want to sew through it, and the thread kept getting tangled and my machine locking up.  It definitely frustrated me to the point of almost throwing in the towel, but I pressed forward because I was SO CLOSE to finishing the dress.  I look back on it now, and laugh at my silly comment, because it wasn't as bad as I was making it out to be.  I'm sure I will sew with ribbon again.

To Val, thank you so much for the sewing machine and for letting me come over so late that Saturday night, so my baby girl could wear this adorable dress on Sunday!  And, for coming to my rescue earlier in the week and for answering my bazillion questions and being so patient with me.

To my Mom, thank you for answering my bazillion questions and for being so patient with me, even though you were at work and still answered my questions.

VERY CUTE! Good job! :) One day, when I actually find some time and we're completely settled, I am going to bust out my machine and get busy sewing. I have LOTS of projects I want to try out.
