Teeny Tears

Right around the 30th week of my pregnancy (3 weeks ago), I was trying to figure out what I was going to do to pass the time by for the next 10 weeks or so.  I kept coming back to my friend Megan's blog and clicking on the button for Teeny Tears the service organization she started.  A light went off in my head.  I started doing a drive for baby flannel donations on some local (and not so local) Facebook Yard Sales.  The response was amazing!!!  It took a day or two to get a response from someone.  Once I got the first person willing to donate, I had so many other people come forward and donate as well.  Most of the donations came from Ephraim and Manti, but I got a few from Nephi and Salina. In total, what I have picked up so far, I have over 9 yards of baby flannel, which I am tracing and cutting to make preemie and micoropreemie diapers.  These diapers are then donated to hospitals all of the country, to be given to families of angel babies.

Just a small amount of the 9 yards of fabric that was donated.

A photo of the little tiny diapers.  You can imagine how small they are by looking at the safety pin holding them together.

Not only did I get amazing response in the donation department, but I have also got amazing response in tracing, cutting and sewing these little diapers.  I enlisted the Activity Days girls from my ward here in Gunnison, which we had our first event last week.  The girls LOVED it, and each one had a story to tell about someone they knew who had a baby too early, or that was too sick and passed away.  It was such a fun event!  And the girls are looking forward to one more event mid-May.  I have also enlisted the Girls Home in Ephraim to help.  They will be doing their own event, which, I have been invited to attend.

We even got a little help from a super cute little cowboy!

My plan was, once I get all of these adorable diapers done, I was going to call Megan and plan a meet-up for lunch and present her with the diapers.  However,  because I was so excited with how my tiny service project turned into such a big thing (big thing for my area), I couldn't hold it in any longer.  I sent her an email last weekend telling her about my surprise for her.  Even though, I am a horrible "secret keeper", this is a project I am SO EXCITED about!!!

A small stack of what we were able to trace during the hour long activity.

A small stack of diapers we were able to cut.

I am so excited to be a part of Megan's amazing drive for diapers!  It definitely makes me feel like I am contributing to something worth while, giving families something to hold on to, to hold close to their hearts...something tangible and real.  Thank you Megan, for being such an amazing person and friend, and for opening up your organization to letting so many people help you in your drive to remember ALL angel babies!

To give you a brief background on how Megan and I know each other, we met while her surviving twin Crew and my Paizlei were in the NICU together 3 years ago.  In a lot of the photos we have of Paizlei, in the background you can see Crew in his incubator. Megan and I have kept in contact with each other since our little miracles graduated from the NICU and were able to come home.  We have even had a NICU Reunion with several other NICU Mommies we met while in there.

Oh, Heather, you are amazing!!! For so many reasons, of course, but I think it's particularly hilarious that you took this on at 30 weeks pregnant. That's usually about the time I am laying on the couch just trying to survive my last few weeks of pregnancy :) Wonderful pictures, I love how many people have become involved in your community!!!

Yeah, I am usually done by the time I'm 30 weeks. This pregnancy has been SO DIFFERENT from the other 2. I've actually been able to enjoy it. :) In the hopes that being busy would help make the last 10 weeks fly by, and keep my mind off of the ever-looming 33rd week, this is really helping keep my mind off things. :)
