Surgery

Two years ago, while Zane was going through POST, they were doing some of their arrest and control techniques in class and injured his knee.  He has been putting off surgery for the last two years, but with the pain, popping and grinding, he couldn't take any more.  He had to be at the hospital at 6am this morning.  He was in surgery for about 45 minutes.  After the surgery, Dr. Wallentine came and talked to me about what he found...Zane had significant damage to the underneath portion of the patella, as well as a bunch of "chunks" floating around.  He said the damage underneath the patella is very common with what Zane described happened.  (While they were doing arrest and control techniques, the arrestee fell on top of Zane's knee causing the injury.)  The doctor smoothed the damage from the patella and removed the "chunks".  Everything went well and Zane is home resting...not comfortably because the pain, but resting nonetheless.

Now comes to battle with WCF trying to get it covered since it a work-related injury.  We re-opened the original claim from 2 years ago, but our doctor, whom Zane saw first for a referral, claimed it was a possible meniscus tear.  However, upon going in there, discovered it was a patella injury, which is what the original claim suggests, we are keeping our fingers crossed they will cover it.  If not, we do have the BEST insurance, so I'm not too worried.  But, if WCF will cover it, that's even better...Zane won't have to use his sick time.
