Autism Testing Part 3 - The ADOS Assessment - Update

I finally received the call from Carolyn, the woman who performed the ADOS Assessment on Hunter.  He scored a 31.5 on the CARS portion of the ADOS.  From that, she was able to tell me that score gives Hunter an educational classification diagnosis of Autism, more along the lines of either PDD-NOS or AS.  Basically, he is high functioning Autistic.  She also said he has delays "clear across the board"...cognitive, speech, language...to name a few.

She still needs to complete the PEP3 portion of the assessment, but she couldn't find the book she needed to finish it.  With the move from the old Ephraim Elementary School to the new Ephraim Elementary School, things got put away in her classroom and she hasn't had the time to go through her HUGE classroom to find it.  But, she contacted the woman at the school district that is over the Special Education to order her another book.  Hopefully she gets it in the next little bit, then we can get the FULL diagnosis.

It sounds like I am still going to have to fight to get Hunter into a 4 day school week.  From this point, this coming up Tuesday we have an appointment with our family doctor to go over the ADOS and the notes from his evaluations with the Children With Special Needs Health Clinic (CSNHC).  A friend informed me I needed to get EVERYTHING from EVERY doctor, evaluator, psychologist together and fight for the 4 day week.  I also have some more appointments set up in September with the CSNHC to go over the ADOS and another ADOS scheduled up at the University of Utah at the request of the psychologist.  He said this one will last a couple of hours and we will get a medical diagnosis, which is what we will most likely need.

Here's to more fighting for my sweet sweet boy!  I love you Hunter!!!!

OMG. Heather...you are a strong woman...you can do this. I am sorry that you and your family will have to struggle with this, but I know it will make you stronger.

You know how to fight...go do it.

And...you can put up with anything...how long were you Monzure's assistant?

Oh Emily, I totally forgot at Monzur!!! You are so right...if I can be his legal assistant for as long as I was, I can handle anything! I'm pretty sure I survived being his assistant because of great friends like you, Jina and Amber...and sometimes Erica and Tenille.

Megan- It's been such a battle trying to get the diagnosis and into the 4 day school week. I wouldn't push it as hard as I am, but where EVERY doctor has advised me to push it, I feel like that's the best thing for me to do.
