You Are Special

Tonight, as I was getting Paizlei ready for bed, I asked Hunter if he would go in his room and pick out a bedtime story that we have never read.  I asked him to look really good and pick out a really good story.

You are Special, by Max Lucado is the book that he chose.

You Are Special (Hardback)

I have read Hunter several other Max Lucado books and never really paid attention to the words.  This book in particular has such a sweet message.  To give you an idea of what the book is about, here is the short paragraph on the back of the book.

"Everyday the small wooden people called Wemmicks do the same thing:
stick either gold stars or gray dots on one another.
The pretty and talented Wemmicks always get the stars.
Others, who can do little or who have chopped paint,
get ugly gray dots, like Punchinello.
In this heartwarming tale,
Eli, the woodcarver helps Punchinello understand how special he is
-no matter what other Wemmicks may think.

After reading this book to my sweet kids and tucking them in bed, I pondered on the meaning and why Hunter had picked out this very book.  What I came up with?  The last 2 weeks I have been having a really hard time with what people are saying and thinking about me and really letting it get the best of me.  Hunter must have sensed that mommy needed to hear the words in this book.  Better yet, Heavenly Father drew Hunter to this book, not only because it was up on the top shelf (his book case is screwed into the wall in 12 different spots), but because Heavenly Father knew I needed to read it.

Yes, I truly did need to hear the words in this book.  I have been reminded by my sweet and adoring husband  not to worry about the things people say, and more importantly, not to let it get to me.  Unfortunately, I did worry about it and I did let it get to me.  It affected my attitude, my energy level, my mind.  Every single word in this book is truly how Heavenly Father looks at each and every one of us.  No matter what anyone else thinks, says or does that may be against us, Heavenly Father loves us.  We are his children, his creation.

From this point on, I WILL NOT worry about what other people say, do or think about me, my amazing husband and our adorable kids.  I KNOW my Heavenly Father loves me no matter what.

In closing this post, here is my favorite passage in this story.
"Remember," Eli said as the Wemmick walked out the door, "you are special because I made you.  And I don't make mistakes."

I've heard this story before, but I couldn't remember what it was titled. I'm glad you posted it. I love that story, and it truly is such a great message that we all need a reminder of. Glad your cutie picked it!
